Conflict of Interest or Tyranny

This isn't Rome and Obama isn't Cesar. This is the United States of America and Obama is an elected public servant. The people of this country need to wake up and see what is happening all around us. FEMA is recruiting pastors to help disarm the public at times when they most have the need to defend their homes. These FEMA rogues don't seem to understand that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land. They loosely handle scriptures like Romans 13. Our government is, as Lincoln stated "of the people, by the people, for the people."

Our government officials are not "rulers" they are civil "servants." The second amendment is very short and very clear on the issue of bearing arms. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Notice this isn't just allowing people the privilege of hunting. It speaks of a "Militia" necessary to maintain a "free State." In case you think "Militia" refers to the Army, let's take a look at the Declaration. In paragraph 2 we read "...That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government..." And further down we read "...it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." Also note that the 2nd amendment points out that it is "...the right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear Arms..."

When the words "We the People" were penned as the first words (in huge letters) to the constitution, it wasn't just to look good. These words capture the essence of the government of these United States. When a president takes the oath of office, he pledges to "...preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." It is time for We the People to brush up on the Declaration and the Constitution and to speak out in defense of our rights while we still have a voice.

Baldwin 08

I've had enough. I'm not going to support McCain or Obama. They are both wolves in sheep's clothing. I can not stand before God with a clear conscience if I vote for one of these men. I have decided to vote for Chuck Baldwin and Darrel Castle of the Constitution Party. These are true men of integrity. Am I throwing my vote away? Absolutely not. Voting for someone you don't believe in is throwing your vote away. And consider these two quotes:

100% McCain?

I'm 100% McCain over Obama. Does this mean I'm 100% McCain? Not exactly. To be quite honest, it's can be stated more accurately in these terms. I'm +1% McCain and -99% Obama. That may be a 100% favor for McCain over Obama but don't mistake me as being a big McCain fan.

Casing The Joint

Recently, Barack Obama met with a number of prominent religious leaders. On the surface this meeting may appear to be a political candidate's attempt to understand the people better. However, I suspect it is nothing more than an attempt to gain information on rhetoric necessary to win the election. The contents of the meeting are not available to the public and there were no commitments made.

Expelled

After seeing the movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed I started looking at some of the reviews. Much of what I saw in the reviews was a mirror of what I saw on the big screen.

The movie exposes the trend of silencing any alternative view to evolution. Evolution is a scientific issue, censorship is not. The main purpose of the movie is to expose censorship and allow free debate on the issue of evolution vs. intelligent design.

However, just as the evolutionists interviewed in the movie, many of the reviewers have chosen to ignore the real premise of the movie and claim that it is an attempt to prove creation over evolution. If that had been the premise of the movie, I'm sure Ben would have gone into more detail of the actual science.

The success of this movie lay in the fact that it does exactly what it was intended to do, expose censorship. The evolutionists don't like that and choose to commit one of the "cardinal sins" of logic, they attack the person rather than the argument.

Truth

Truth is absolute. In today's society it is common for people to think that truth is relative or that we can create our own truth. In one of the Karate Kid movies, Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) tells Daniel (Ralph Macchio) that "a lie only becomes truth if person believes it." A lie is a lie regardless who believes it and the truth is still the truth regardless of whether or not anyone believes it.

To illustrate the point, imagine the following scenario:

A young boy is walking down the street when he passes by an alley. He notices just a little way into the alley, a man slumped down against the wall on one side. Curious, the boy walks over and looks down at the man.

The man has a band tight around his left arm and a dirty needle in his right hand. It's obvious to the boy what the man is about to do. Just then the man notices the boy and looking up he says "Kid, don't ever do drugs, they'll ruin your life."

Now, at this point, the boy is at pivotal moment in his life. He has a decision to make as to how he is going to receive this mans words.

On one hand, he can say "You hypocrite, how dare you tell me not to do drugs when you are obviously a drug addict yourself. I'll do drugs if I want and you have no right to tell me that it's wrong."

Or, he can look at the condition of the man and say "I believe that you are telling me the truth. I believe drugs will ruin your life and I believe you are proof of that. I vow here and now that I will never do drugs."

Now, the truth is, drugs will ruin your life. Not because the man said so. He has no power to make that statement true or false. He can only deliver the message in hopes that others won't make the same mistake he has made.

We, as Christians, have a message for the world, "Without Christ, we are doomed to an eternity in hell." This statement is true. Not because we say so but because God says so. God is the only one in the universe with the power to define things like truth, right, and wrong. He is sovereign. Until we accept that, we are unable to receive all the life giving truth that He has for us.

Why not Harry Potter?

There are many people who have fallen in love with the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. While the books are no doubt very well written, there is at least one biblically sound reason why Christians should not indulge in these books. Even though the hero, Harry Potter, has many positive qualities there is one negative quality to which we must not turn a blind eye. He practices witchcraft.

Deuteronomy 18:10-13
10Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. 13You must be blameless before the LORD your God.

Notice here that God isn't just calling witchcraft detestable, He is actually saying that the person who does this is detestable. And He did not qualify this statement by adding "...unless the person is otherwise an all around good guy." And as an example of how serious God views witchcraft Exodus 22:18 says "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."

How then can we as Christians view in a positive light someone that God says is detestable? It reminds me of an old analogy I once heard. It was basically something like this:

If you take a barrel of sewage and add a teaspoon of fresh water, you have a barrel of sewage.
If you take a barrel of fresh water and add a teaspoon of sewage, you have a barrel of sewage.

What person would want to drink from either barrel? Yet despite the fact that God says that the person who engages in witchcraft is detestable, many Christians insist on justifying these books and viewing Harry Potter as some kind of role model for their children.

This shouldn't come as a surprise though. The Bible clearly states that this sort of thing will happen.

2 Timothy 4:3-4
3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

When discussing these issues, keep in mind the following:

Matthew 7:6
Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.

Simply point to what the scriptures say and then, as Dr. Voddie Bauchum says, "Leave the rest to the Holy Spirit."

I've become Mister Rogers

Well, not exactly. But recently I have been going through his trademark ritual of switching from work mode to play mode when getting home from work. I don't wear a sport coat and dress shoes to work but I do wear a casual dress shirt over a T-shirt and casual dress shoes. As soon as I come in from work, I remove the outer shirt and change into my sneakers. All these years I never really understood how important it is to do this. But now, with children of my own, I see how it helps me to get out of work mode and into play mode so that I'm in the right frame of mind to give my kids the attention they need. My hat's off to Mister Rogers for his example.
